Historicial Development: According to "This Everlasting Sand Bed": Cultural Resources Investigations at the Texas Big Sandy Project, Wood and Upshur Counties, Texas, the Barton Brothers owned a steam sawmill in the southeastern part of the county in 1910, north of Hawkins.
