Historicial Development: The 1880 Special Schedules of Manufactures, Schedules 5 and 6, list Hooper & Jackson as operating a sawmill industry with a capitalization of $1500. Operating on an 8-hour daily summer and winter schedule, the 8 men employees were paid at the rate of $1 a day for a skilled mechanic and $.50 a day for unskilled labor. The annual wages paid totaled $800 for ten operational months. Raw materials were valued at $2000 for logs and $200 for mill supplies. The mill produced 400,000 feet for a total value of $4,000.
