The Griffiths obtained a land grant on this site as part of Austin's second colony. They moved here with their three sons and built a log cabin. One of their sons, Joshua Delos, operated one of the first sawmills here. The third son married Angelina Dickenson, the “babe of the Alamo”, for she and her mother Suzanna Dickenson were the only survivors of the battle of the Alamo.
